The first official indication that the winter is FINALLY over is May long weekend. This is the time we break out the flip flops and put away the winter woolies. Though, I will admit I found a patch of ice and another curious thing on my walk on Saturday afternoon. Most of the young saplings were nibbled on about two to three feet up the truck. I realized that is how far the snow was this winter and the rabbits were eating the on the bark while hopping along the snowy trails.
FINALLY GOT IT DONE!
Some of my regular customers will remember last autumn when my supplier's building burnt in a fire, leaving me scrabbling for replacement frames and supplies. One of my customer's frame had been been left over discontinued stock and I could not find one similar in colour, shape or price. He was very disappointed but I told him that, maybe this frame wasn't meant to be and that we would find a better one for the project; his father's service medals and memorabilia.
I began a nearly six month search for a replacement frame by pouring through catalogues, online sources, calling framing companies until this April when I found one very similar. He approved immediately and I finally finished his project.
It is always an honour to frame medals for veterans, especially ones from the First and Second World War. It is like touching greatness. This project required a seven hole collage mat for the picture, name plaque, balmoral, leather dog tags, Cape Breton badge, Pictou Highlanders badge and war medals.
If you have veteran's medals and memorabilia to frame, remember I always offer a 10% discount on these special projects.WEDDINGS

When I was younger, rug hooking was a necessity to keep not only your bare cold floors but to keep a house homey. Nowadays, they are creations of art and decorate our homes on walls, chair seats, and artworks.
Over this long winter, both my mother and I started to hook wool creations in forms of art works. Vicki is recreating her paintins is hooked wool. They are very painterly and resemble a painted artwork. Each work has hand dyed yarns and is methodically hooked to grade seamlessly into the next shade.WOOL ART
I, on the other hand prefer more whimsical subject matters and hook in bold, sharp colours.
Each of us create and draw original designs and then hooks them ourselves.
If you wish to see more of these new works or some samples, visit at the studio or at the upcoming Antigonish Art Fair: http://www.thehighlandheart.ca/antigonish-art-fair-2015/SMITTENS
PS-If anyone has any wool or part wool sweaters, blankets, etc that you are tossing away, I would be interested. I make Sweater Mittens (or SMITTENS). I will take any wool...lambswool, cashmere, etc. The used clothes store doesn't have much anymore as people use wool for many purposes. Just let me know. Thanks.
